In the early hours of Wednesday, the death of an acclaimed film editor Nishad Yusuf was discovered in his apartment in Panampilly Nagar. Suspicious of a suicide case, the investigation is ongoing, and additional details have not been disclosed by the authorities.
FEFKA confirms Nishad Yusuf’s death
The death was confirmed by The Film Employees Federation of Kerala (FEFKA) Directors’ Union through its official Facebook page. A picture was shared by the film body, with a message in Malayalam: “The unexpected demise of Nishadh Yusuf, film editor, who played a major role in determining the contemporary future of the changing Malayalam cinema is not something that will be quickly accepted by the film world. Condolences are offered by FEFKA Directors’ Union.”
The regional media might be reporting it as a suicide, but the police haven’t issued or confirmed any statement about the same. The case is being investigated by the Kerala Police, reported by Matrubhoomi, any possibility has not been suspected yet.
Who was Nishad Yusuf?
The highly acclaimed Malayalam and Tamil editor Nishad Yusuf has worked on popular film projects like Thallumaala, Unda, One, Saudi Vellakka, and Adios Amigos. The pan-India film Kanguva starring Suriya and Bobby Deol was signed by him last year, and the film is set to hit the theatres on November 14, 2024.
As per FEFKA’s report, Yusuf was also working on other projects as well. The upcoming Mohanlal and Mammotty-starrer Bazooka was being edited by him. Alappuzha Gymkhana was also in his kitty. Nishad, of Harippad, won the award for Best Editor at the State level for the movie Thallumaala, in 2022.
